Did I mention it's snowing a little?

Fairly heavy and settling fast.

I know it's nothing by the standards of e.g. Canada, but it's certainly buggered up my plans for today, I really don't want to go out further than the supermarket in this:

Just waiting for it to die down a little and/or I decide I want coffee since I've run out of milk...

According to [livejournal.com profile] drplokta "Our severe weather warning has just been upgraded to a red emergency warning of 10-15cm of snow this afternoon, with up to 25cm locally"

I went out before it got going this morning. Hoping it will die down a bit this afternoon for more errand running. And black coffee is drinkable.

One of the technicians I work with comes from the Czech Republic and keeps calling us drama queens for being so upset by a little snow. She and her boyfriend are driving home for Xmas, someone asked about ice and of course it turns out that they have winter tyres fitted to their van as a matter of routine... I feel VERY unprepared, by comparison.

Aye, if we all had winter tyres and/or chains, then a lot of the road drama we have just wouldn't happen.

Winter tires help whenever the weather is cold, not just with snow. Softer rubber means better grip.

Up here it's illegal _not_ to have winter tyres after a certain date (late November I think, but I don't have a driver's license so I don't really care).

I don't think there are tires that'll make a motorcycle safe in the snow. You need a snow mobile! After all, this is the new normal!

Just this once we've actually got more snow than you!

Staying in seems a good option in both cases, though.

Just back from the shops - got enough groceries to tide me over until after Xmas, apart from maybe more milk, bread, and salad in the middle of the week, and went to the Early Learning Centre and got toys for the three grand-nephews.
